General Assembly approves legislation to honor fallen Roanoke soldier
A section of Illinois Route 116 will soon be renamed to honor the memory and sacrifice of SPC Phillip Pannier, according to State Sen. Jason Barickman (R-Bloomington).
“SPC Pannier gave his life in service to his country,” said Sen. Barickman. “It is important that we remember his sacrifice, his service, and his dedication to his fellow man.”
Army Specialist Phillip Pannier was killed in action on January 8, 2008, while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Pannier was a 2006 graduate of Roanoke-Benson High School, where he was active band, football, FFA, soccer and 4-H.
Senate Joint Resolution 9 designates Illinois Route 116 from Roanoke to Metamora as the SPC Phillip J. Pannier Memorial Highway. The Illinois Department of Transportation will soon erect signs displaying the name.
The legislation passed the Illinois Senate on May 25th, and was approved in the House on November 14th.
